Our living spaces are becoming more and more compact, yet the desire for a place to retreat remains. »Balcony³« is a public tower of rentable balconies. In this design, the balcony is not only an addition to a building, but also a main element of the architecture. Balconies serve as a boundary between private and public spheres; they not only separate the interior from the exterior, but are places where both meet. In its form and structure, the design plays with this special characteristic but goes a step further. The tower becomes an image of society through its tenants, regardless of their origin or class, and their most diverse uses. It can strengthen social connections and promote integration and community in the city by bringing tenants together.
"Balcony³" is a tower with rental balconies. The concept addresses the problem of dense living space and the lack of local recreation facilities in urban areas under contemporary issues:
Analogous to vertical urban gardening, the balconies are stacked in a condensed manner. They represent an offer to communicate with the neighbour and at the same time offer a possibility to retreat.
Communal balconies provide an infrastructure for cooking, WCs and lockers. A statement.
