"With the famous bonmot 'You cannot communicate' Paul Watzlawick described the omnipresence and inevitability of communication already many years ago. This is certainly similar for the field of design. The 'how' plays a central role for everything that is built, constructed, formed or photographed. Following Watzlawick you could say: 'You
cannot not create.' That would also be a possible motto for the aed. On the one hand, because the width of the term design is very consciously picked out as a topic. And on the other, the aed
also is crucially all about communication: the exchange with others and certainly also the lively discussion about attitudes towards design or solutions. The aed wants to promote consciously
looking at things and advertizes a lively discussion with the designed surroundings. And also the pictures, we (ourselves) take and have of our world are, of course, part of that."
