Title: Merimna – fighting forest fires via remote control
Name: Michael Ushakov, Florian Czak, Jasper Mendel
Medium, object: Fire trucks
University: HTW Berlin
Supervisor: Prof. Jan Vietze
We have developed the »Merimna« concept in order to address the increased risk of forest fires in the future without endangering human lives. A fleet of fire trucks is controlled remotely from an office location; this opens up possibilities for fighting forest fires in a more offensive manner because no human life is put at risk. Particular focus was placed on heat resistance and off-road capability in vehicle design, also on the highest possible individual ability of the operating environment, in order to offer the firefighters maximum concentration, comfort and effectiveness.
The design concept »Merimna« particularly impressed the jury. It is a holistic concept prepared with great attention to detail for fighting forest fires in an intelligent and externally controlled way. »Merimna« offers a mobile, agile fire truck made from fireproof material that can be manoeuvred without any crew. The fully equipped autonomous control center with its user-friendly cockpit workplace makes a professional impression, is ergonomic and designed like a unified whole. »Merimna« cites safety-related aspects as well as visionary and dynamic mobility requirements. A particularly successful, complex and holistic concept on a very topical issue.
