Title: The Cell - Reviving regional cheese-making tradition in Ireland
Name: Lucius Ladleif
Medium, Object: Cheese dairy
University: TU Braunschweig
Supervisor: Prof. Berthold Penkhues
With "The Cell", a cooperative cheese dairy is to be built in Glendalough National Park, which, in addition to industrial cheese production, is particularly dedicated to the many old production methods
and brings them closer again to those interested in joint work. Visitors can follow and participate in the entire production process. The guests thus experience the holistic
process behind the finished product.
The author knows how to establish regional references as well as to translate his idea convincingly into a planned reality. The direct experience of the production chain is presented in
the interlocking cubes visible, which form an architecturally interesting spatial ensemble of high quality. The additional inclusion of the theme of the cave creates a beautiful dialogue
between subtractive and additive, which rounds off the work. The jury was impressed by both the content idea and the successful formal implementation.
