More than 20,000 refugees have drowned in the Mediterranean since 2013. This issue, which is still a crucial one, has not yet been sufficiently addressed with solutions adapted to the situation. As a relatively inexpensive technology, »Amplex« improves the safety of sea crossing significantly. Approaches attempted so far, such as the use of ships by charitable organizations, are not able to entirely remedy the problem. »Amplex« is a lifebuoy that provides shipwrecked persons with safety until help arrives. It is based on tried-and-tested technologies (such as the compressed air system of an aircraft evacuation slide) and leverages passing ships and their emergency equipment.
A highly-functional, innovative design for saving lives. The design has thus provided an answer to a pressing issue of our times. What the political-social solution will look like is another matter.
